It's been a sad, sad weekend in these parts: my lovely long hair is gone! That's right, after an attempt to trim it myself (I've always done this before without a hitch, but...) went terribly awry, and my attempts to even it out took away more and more hair, the only way I could look semi-normal was to just have it all hacked off into a sort of bob. (It's a bit longer than it looks in these pictures, I'm just not used to setting such short hair so it came out in really tight curls). I'm really quite heartbroken; even though I think short hair looks incredibly cute and I know it's more authentically vintage, I'm just a long-haired girl at heart.
Luckily I have pretty healthy, fast-growing hair, so I hope it grows back to a more comfortable length in the near future. And 'til then, I'm going to take full advantage of the new length: I can finally try my hand at things like pincurls and finger waves, and channel Marilyn Monroe, Clara Bow, Debbie Harry, and every '20s and '30s girl there ever was. I'm sure it'll feel much cooler through the summer months, too. So objectively, the pros outweigh the cons... I'm just a silly vain thing who feels sentimentally attached to my locks!
♥ I hope you had a lovely weekend! ♥
Your haircut looks great on you!!
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm sorry you had a hair miss-hap but I do love a good bob! Cutting off all that length too probably made your hair really healthy as well. Now it can breath! You might as well enjoy all those cropped vintage styles now while you have the short tresses, I've love to see you do a Louise Brooks style straight bob too :)
ReplyDeleteYou look great. I think you could be bald and still look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAnd as usual, great dress!
I've been trying to work up the courage to hack my hair off, because it just seems really hard to get the vintage look with longer hair, but I can't! I'm too attached to it. My mom says I look younger with shorter hair but I think your cut made you look older! You look stunning and you should have fun while it lasts! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hate when that happens - I don't vut my own hair.. but my fringe/bangs has often been cut extra short to finally make it even!
ReplyDeleteDon't fret - it looks lovely! And what a wonderful chance to try a whole new set of styles :)
You look darling, though I know what it's like when you don't feel that your hair makes you feel like "yourself"! I personally find shorter hair freeing--in fact, I've realized I feel most myself with a shorter 'do and I think you look darling with this cut. You're right, though...it will always grow back!
ReplyDeleteOmg, I just cut my hair today, we now have the exact same hair! You are so pretty you look perfect with short or long hair, on the bright side, if you do end up growing your hair out, you can try out lots of different styles on the way there!

You look ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteYour new haircut is definitely going to look amazing with all your 20s/30s/40s frocks! Despite the accident I think this will definitely help you be more creative and will be a boon during the hot summer months. I currently have chest-length hair and am sick of it, am so tempted to hack it all off.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I think it looks awesome (not that it didn't before, of course, but different is always fun!)
ReplyDeleteI'm just relieved I'm not the only one who has this story to tell. Last summer I had a bob for the same reason... well, there was more beer than I'd like to admit involved ;)
I love your hair and that's a wonderful dress. (:
ReplyDeleteI'm going to follow your blog!
I felt exactly the same when I had my long hair hacked off :( You're lucky that yours grows fast; it's taken nearly two years to get mine back to a decent length!
ReplyDeleteMake the most of having short hair - it suits you no matter what the length because you're so darn pretty x
Sorry you're missing it so much, and it was beautiful, but it will grow back, and in the meantime.... well, I just wish that a bob would look like that one me. Your hair look phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteOh you look adorable, you have a beautiful face that you can carry it off, it will grow quickly don't fret! x
ReplyDeleteDakota it looks beautiful! Don't worry it really suits you and you will have so much fun trying out lot's of new looks. I only wish I had your courage to do the chop. I feel bad about my recent post on long hair now, it was a complete coincidence I promise! Hope you have a lovely week. xx
ReplyDeleteDakota funny thing I dreamt I had all mine cut off) last night (fault of of my high school pic I posted on my blog lol) and I cried and cried. I am old and cant get much off even an inch feels like 10 inches.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky you are young and pretty and can look good anyway you have it.xx
I understand your sadness, but don't worry too much because you look great with short hair. Good luck with trying out new hairstyles! :)
ReplyDeleteAww shame about your hair - I use to to have short hair and it never use to bother me getting it cut, but now I have long hair I dread having it chopped off - somehow got very attached to my locks. But it looks lovely on you - I guess I fail in the vintage stakes because my hair is long.
ReplyDeleteAwww do not worry doll. You can carry off both short and long hair and it looks great on you i think. Make the most of the short hair for now by trying out different styles and it will grow back in no time x
ReplyDeleteannoyingly you've looked good with every length of hair i've seen you in. Rargh! xxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteAwww, I'm sorry ya feel bad about your hair! The short hair is amazing on you though! I love it! Enjoy it and have fun while it's that way :o)
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you all so so much!!
ReplyDeleteReading your comments, plus looking at pictures of Marilyn Monroe (girl really rocked the short hair!) has made me feel much, much better. I'm actually feeling excited now about all the fun new styles I'll be able to try out! Thanks again to each and every one of ya for the encouraging words!
Dakota,
ReplyDeleteI think your hair looks adorable & what fun trying out all those new hairstyles will be! I love your hair both long & short.
I think your hair is just darling! I think it's normal to have that Jo March moment of tragedy after you cut your locks off (I can't really speak, though, I haven't cut my hair in eight years due to my fear of regretting it...!), but you shouldn't worry - it's lovely on you. :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear :( I know that feeling. actually it is why I refuse to go shorter than shoulder length! But, as you said, it is a great opportunity to try out those vintage looks :) Go channel Myrna Loy and enjoy yourself while you wait for it to grow out!
ReplyDeleteThen, probably by the time Christmas comes around again, we'll be able to see your good ole Gibson girl locks again :)
Oh, I'm sorry you're sad! I got the impression from your last post you were quite thrilled to have short hair... But never fear, I think you're mourning is completely justified and having undergone a similar experience in teh last month, I completely empathise. Just so you know though, you look gorgeous, always! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt does look great! But, oh, I know exactly what you mean. I want long hair again...I hope you enjoy it while it's short, though! =D
ReplyDelete-Andi x
You are so incredibly beautiful! Perhaps short hair isn't your favorite, but you pull it off just as prettily as long hair. I love your blog! <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, ladies <3
ReplyDeleteSarah 1: Jo March kept coming to mind when I reflected on this, haha... my "one beauty" is gone! I only wish I could have had it all taken off at once so I could've been selfless like Jo and donated it.
Sarah 2: I was excited to have it just below my shoulders and long-ish... but this new chin-length bob is a bit much for me, haha.
Love your hair it looks great. Your hair always looks immaculate. Gorgeous dress and pictures too
ReplyDeleteMarisa:)
Your new haircut is adorable! Think of all the fun you can have experimenting with new looks. Plus, speaking from experience, short hair is so much quicker to style!
ReplyDeleteOh, you look so lovely with short hair! And you get to enjoy all the awesome short styles while it grows :) win win!
ReplyDeleteIts not at all silly, I am exactly the same I had my hair cut, 6" off in December and have been growing it out again ever since! It does look gorgeous though xx
ReplyDeleteI think it looks adorable. I bet it was a shock but you look gorgeous!

the way you style your hair is so gorgeous, really. I love it. This dress is supremely great too! It is great that your hair grows fast. Mine does too. In no time your hair will be long again if that is what you would like, that is.
