in the sun

Greetings!!

Well, these days I've been craving color and pop-art vividness like never before. Must be the gloomy time of year... here on my country lane, I'm surrounded by exquisitely bleak vignettes of brown fields draped in frost, skeletal tree branches teeming with crows, and dead leaves wafting around the cemetery. In the past I've gotten all into that ~gothic ambiance~, but this year I'm like "no thanks". Roll on the sixties looks, 'cause nothing says summertime fun like a li'l mod dress and big hair, and I don't want realism, I want MAGIC!

This Creamsicle-colored dress is all about SLEEVE DRAMA:

I'm loving this sweet little "Young Edwardians" number... half '20s, half '60s, all cute. Also maybe more Spring appropriate, but I just picked it up at a thrift shop for $5.00 and couldn't wait to wear it out!! (Could also add a long-sleeved blouse underneath when the cold winds blow.)

l

Been doing the ol' "Twiggy Lite" on my eyes:

Hope all's well with y'all!! If it's Autumn where you are, how's it going? Do you embrace the wools and the plaids and such, or rage against the dying of the warmth??

  2. First off, happy belated birthday! Next, I love these 60s looks on you! The sleeves on that dress are PERFECT. I love huge sleeves. Your makeup is beautiful too. It hasn't even gotten to feel like Fall yet where I am. It was 99 degrees yesterday! I'm looking forward to wearing items I haven't been able to wear in the heat, regardless of tone/color, more in terms of fabrics and textures. Like heavy poly knit from the 60s, haven't worn anything like that in months!

  4. I've thought it before, but in case I haven't yet said it, I am constantly impressed and inspired by how incredibly well you can make various decades work for you. I can't recall a modern miss in 60s frocks ever looking lovelier than you do here.

  5. Swoon you look gorgeous with big hair, you look gorgeous all the time anyhow. Those sleeves are sheer magic! The other dress is adorable, you need to form a band as you look perfect for an all 1960s girl group. Well I am embracing the dark weather and going gothic, I love my capes, and recently redyed my hair black so need to keep going with my Victorian ghost vibe aha. xxx

  7. Darling, don't you look like a sixties dream! I completely agree with Jessica about never seeing a lovelier modern miss in sixties frocks. The pumpkin color of the first dress is perfect for October, and the second dress really is the perfect mix of 20s and 60s. (I also love that bag!)
Like every year, I'm looking forward to the darker colors and heavier fabrics of winter. I'm used to a milder, shorter winter over here on the west coast though--we're still experiencing heat in the 80s and 90s!

    1. Well, I was a '60s obsessive in high school, so fortunately I still have quite a few of my old '60s and '70s gems tucked away in my closet!! Me at 16: http://flic.kr/p/8b8HzN I think I might do a retrospective post one of these days... I had some killer clothes back then that I traded for earlier vintage in college :(
