dreaming of a white christmas

Hey there! I just wanted to wish one and all a Cool Yule and a Frantic First!!!!

Photobucket

This year I'm facing the "novelty" of a snowless SoCal Christmas. Can't fib here, it's a mite tough to access the spirit of the season when all around me it feels and looks like it's the middle of summer! When it comes to Noel merriment, Vermont is just where it's at. Little villages dusted in snow, cutting our own Christmas tree from the forest hills out back, sledding parties and mulled cider-- it's tops! Here's a nostalgic peek back at last year's festivities, just to get those yuletide juices flowing...

I put this li'l tableau together for my fam's Christmas dinner.

The best Christmas dress ever!!! (And the best dog ever, Miss Banjo Frenchburg!)

Even the antler chandelier dons its gay apparel!

(BTW, I found this rad lamp at the town dump! Lotsa people have hunting cabins and such near me, and when they decide to "modernize" 'em, well, guess where that vintage woodsy decor ends up? Yes, the dumpster at first, but I snap 'em pretty quick ;)

I hope you and yours have a really lovely holiday season, whether you're celebrating anything or not.
OK, gotta go read some Robert Frost and dream about the Green Mountains now.
I guess I will see ya next year!!

  2. That is THE most perfect Christmas dress I've seen so far! And your tree is so gorgeous!
For me I wouldn't be able to get into the Christmas spirit if it WAS snowing! I've lived in Australia most of my life so Christmas is spent by the pool. I forget it's even meant to snow on Christmas until I look at blogs on the other side of the world :P

  3. Why thank you, dollies!! That dress is such a gem; one of the highlights of my closet for sure. I did a full post on it last year: http://dakota-rodeo.blogspot.com/2011/12/have-cool-yule.html

Harlow, it always blows my mind thinking about you folks down under, for whom Christmas = summer!! It is very pleasant, though, being able to wear shorts in December ;)

  8. I can't imagine Christmas in the heat either Dakota. I loved looking at your Christmas photos, that is an amazing Christmas dress and your home looks so festive and cosy. My mum used to work in the local rubbish tip office and they had it all kitted out with stuff people had thrown away, it's crazy some of the stuff people just throw out. xx

  9. That truly is one of the absolutely most wonderful, gorgeous Christmas dresses of all time. What a treasure to have and enjoy each holiday season.

I've had snow-less Christmases before, but never lived (or spent the holidays) anywhere devoid of the possibility of snow. That would be very, very strange for this Canadian gal, too, and I completely understand where you're coming from.

I hope you have a magical, magnificent Christmas all the same, dear gal, and am sending countless festive wishes your way!

  11. Merry Christmas Dakota! To get into the spirit of our California Christmas, how about making enchiladas on Christmas eve? That is what our family has always done. I would love a snowy Christmas one day, but I have come to really appreciate our warm weather.

    1. That was one of the ideas we tossed around!! But we decided to go the lazy route (no dishes on Christmas!) and went out for Thai food ;)
