I recently stumbled across this Kansas City artist's
remarkable work, and fell head-over-heels for her achingly lovely,
haunted world. Some of her pieces remind me very much of 19th century
needlework and folk art! Flora, Fauna, eidolic maidens, and gorgeous
gloom pervades her images. I'm not usually a fan of the
"retro"/pseudo-Victorian art that seems to flourish on Etsy, but I am
somehow entirely smitten by these works; maybe because they have such a
quiet, elegant spookiness. They actually remind me of days past here
in Vermont, when I was younger and wore Victorian petticoats and spent a
lot of time writing stories and exploring old farmhouses. (Why don't I
do that anymore? Time to pick that back up.)
Beautiful indeed! The 4rth piece is my absolute favorite!
ReplyDeleteThis art is so beautiful! The first piece is for sure my favorite! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI have goose pimples! Beautiful! Love the pic with the grass growing around and through the dress.
ReplyDeleteOh wow I love it, reminds me of the film Tideland for some reason. Get back to wandering round ol' farmhouses stat! xxx
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to watch that film for such a long time! I think I would love the aesthetics, but I'm also a very squeamish moviegoer, so I keep talking myself out of it.
DeleteThanks very much for introducing me to this amazing artist!
ReplyDeleteDitto what Emalina says, these are beautiful, I don't think I could pick a favourite. xx
ReplyDeleteThere is something starkly gripping and gorgeous about her work. It embodies a certain classic style, yet one knows in the same instance that its present day work. You've created a new fan (of her work) in me - thank you.
