Step right up! Come on in, if you'd like to take the grand tour!
Howdy. This here's my little world for the winter.
The worst part about college for me is the 2-year residency requirement. I hate living in a dormitory; it doesn't mesh too well with my aesthetic sensibilities. Haha. But I keep the place looking O.K. by filling it to the brim with little old knick-knacks.

I do like the ceiling.
Oh look, here's my latest $1 record haul (gracefully modeled by my hand-croched clown draftstopper). How these end up in the cast-off discount box is a mystery to me! Who doesn't wanna have a twist party with Chubby Checker?!
It's cold out there, folks; it's time to Think Mink!
(Vintage, that is, I don't condone the killing of li'l critters)
Well, there you have it. Nothing special, but it's alright. It's a nice retreat from the overwhelmingly bland campus around me, that's for sure; my state university is not renowned for its vibrancy or diversity, to put it mildly. But honestly, it just takes a li'l Connie Francis and a chalkware lamp to cheer me up. And Joan Crawford sheet music.
awww how adorable is your dorm!!! its very coozy vintage chic!!! :D love it love it love it!!! :D
ReplyDeleteDo you have your own room or a roommate? What does the roommate think of your style and what are you studying anyway? So curious! :) AWESOME record haul. The Million Dollar Quartet?! So jealous! The CMA record is one of my faves; I've found a few copies and given a few away. Also sweet deal on the Hank Williams!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks so sweet! and LOVE that ceiling! Your room has much more personality than mine in collage....the walls were painted cinder block. Felt a little...institutional ;)
ReplyDeleteDorms can be old timey too :) When I was a teen I traveled with my grandma to a girls' school she attended outside of St.Louis after high school. It was sort of a finishing school, and all the girls lived in little dorm rooms like this.
I can't wait to move next year to a new student apartment, it will be my first time decorating, would need some records too!
ReplyDeleteRueby, I'm all alone this year, thankfully!! Last year I had a randomly assigned girl and it was awful-- she thought I was the weirdest person in the world, haha!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and I'm an art history major :)
ReplyDeleteThe quaintest dorm room I ever did see!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so lovely! I'm glad that you made it your own. I actually regret never living on campus because I feel like I missed out on the friendship-building that happens there. Because I didn't live on campus, I didn't make any college friends, really. So I say enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteOh I love all the pieces you have gathered, especially the Joan Crawford sheet, you have really put your own touch to it! xx p.s. you look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I liked your last post, I agree, November is spooky indeed, today and tonight where we are in Scotland has been freezing, sparkly frosty grounds and misty fog in the air, clouding the moon and the street lights! And it got dark at 4pm! gah! Spooky times! :) Have a wonderful week! x
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
ReplyDeleteHannah, I was so excited when I found that original 1934 "Sadie McKee" sheet music; I found it and a ton more '20s and '30s sheet music featuring famous Hollywood stars on them, for $1 a piece! I'll have to scan them all in some day, they're pretty neat.
Zoe, dark at 4pm?! That would make for some eerie evenings! It sounds wonderful in a dark romantic way!
Loving the vintage photos :)
ReplyDeleteLovely setup

I think I would have loved having you as my college roommate, though you'd hate me because i'd just want to raid your closet and look at all of your amazing things!
ReplyDeleteI live in Australia and we don't have any of that residency rubbish, but I've noticed it to be popular in the US...I guess it's the university's way of stealing more money from students?
ReplyDeleteThat said, it looks like you've made the best out of a crappy situation and made your room look really cosy :)
I love this post! That Joan Crawford sheet music is just stunning, and the ceiling is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh Dakota you are making your dorm room into a wonderful vintage home away from home - what a fantastic job! I love that you're hanging your frocks on the walls like you do at home and the lamp and record player are gorgeous additions. I think you'll find your little pad will be your retreat away from the outside world and you might be surprised and miss it a little when it's time to leave:)). Oh you look scrumptious in your mink!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI hope you have met some like minded people there.Tell me what are you studying?
ReplyDeleteThank-you dolls!! Funnily enough, I definitely love this little squirrel nest much more than my freshman year dorm, which was in a fancy new building. This building I'm in now was built in the 1890s, and the outside is all gothic revival stone and very castle-like. Good as it gets!
ReplyDeleteAh, Harlow Darling, you're absolutely right... this is the uni's way of suckering more money from us. It's awful being packed in like cattle :( Just this year left, though, then I'm free to have my very own charmingly decrepit apartment, haha.
Nelly, I am an Art History major, English minor. Alas, no-one around here is really shares my interests, but I figure I'll get a decent undergrad education on the cheap here at my state school, then go to Grad School someplace a little more cosmopolitan!
Looks awesome! You have such a great style! Love your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI really like your room, it seems so cozy and you have so many beautiful things, also love the fur. Your blog is awesome by the way and I am a new follower! Hope you will like my blog and follow back!

I can't believe your college has a two year requirement! That's so long! At least you're making the most of it. (And that ceiling is quite lovley.) I'm incredibly jealous of your lovely record collection by the way. You've found a major! How exciting! Art History must be wonderful. I think I would have liked that too.
ReplyDeletep.s.: Did you get my letter from a few weeks back?
I love your home decorating skills, your sense of style, the whole nines.
