krazy kismet

Greetings earthlings! Would you believe, so soon after this post, I stumbled upon this jewel of a 1950s Egyptian-themed dress?! 'Twas $10 at a sale at my favorite antiques store, and though I need another summer dress like a hole in my head, I couldn't turn down this stroke of good fortune.

I don't believe I have done a proper outfit post to this site since the autumn... and here it is, almost Spring! Well, I've spent most of the winter in California where I didn't have a digital camera, and then the California Casual bug bit me hard! Now I'm back in the 802; time to get back in the game!! I'll confess I'd rather wear this dress with bare arms and sandals, but in spite of all my daydreaming it is winter. (Hence the funny turtleneck ;)

Such a great print, and in hot pink no less!

For my American friends, I hope you've got President's Day off and are having a grand weekend. I'm visiting my family, and reveling in a spot of sunny Spring-like weather ♥

  1. Good lord, that dress is amazing! I remember when I was 13 or so I tried on an Egyptian-themed novelty print shift in a vintage shop in Sydney. After much humming and haing I decided to leave it behind, for some strange reason. It has haunted me ever since, so this post is giving me some serious envy. You look beautiful and I love the pink with the green.

I also wanted to express my support (briefly) for your last post. People make certain assumptions about me because of my 50s garb that are far from correct, and it's nice to see another vintage-focused blogger who doesn't dream of being a coked-up 50s housewife with no rights and no life. Love your blog.

  4. Georgia Rose, I know that feeling too well; I still get a pang thinking of some killer dresses I've passed up, ah well! And thank you for the nice words on my infamous "modern/vintage" post; good to know I'm not alone!

Anthea and Dizzy Dame, thank you dolls!!

Them Good Old Days, they're vintage '60s I'm afraid, so one-of-a-kind! I wish I could have 70 pairs of them; I found them at a thrift store when I was 17 and have been wearing them ever since :)

  5. Love the print! The turtleneck looks really good with it too. I gotta try adding some warm long sleeves to my summer dresses now.

  6. Fabulously cool find! You look cute as a button (Egyptian amulet?) in it! I love that the main colour of this dress is dark strawberry juice red. When one thinks of the colours of both ancient Egypt and the 20th century Egyptian revival, blue, green, teal, yellow, white, black and gold tend to spring to mind. The fact that red features here most predominately really helps this dress stand out even more than the Egyptian design alone would have (were it, say, on a more conventionally "Egyptian" colour).

  8. What a dress! I am so freakin' susceptible to anything Egypt related when buying vintage-- I have one lucky sixties' blouse with a pharoah-print, and a necklace of King Tut from the seventies' that probably makes me look like a used car salesman (probably?), but hang it all, the heart wants what it wants! I love how you picked up the green in the print with the turtleneck, beautifully styled (and warm!).

  9. You make me think of the B-52s in this dress, very Mesapotamia, and the shoes are just beautiful. Love a bit of Roy too. xx
