One of the only issues I ever have with my bangs aesthetically is that they can be hard to incorporate into pre-1950s hairstyles. They are U-shaped, a milder version of the classic Bettie Page style; they look best curled and seem to scream "1950s!".
However, I need not despair when I'm in more of a 1930s or 1940s mood; I just need to look at some portraits of my girl Claudette for some golden era hair inspiration:

Whose hair do you idolize?
I totally love Bette Davis' hair in that picture, I can't wait till my hair gets a bit longer and I can copy that style!

I always love vintage hair styles... but the star whose hair I love the most is Louise Brooks, she looks so fierce.
ReplyDeleteI love bangs! The only reason I would ever grow my hair out again is to have Bettie Page bangs, lol.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I hear a lot of folks say that people didn't wear bangs in the 30s. Here's great proof that they did :D
ReplyDeleteany of the girls hair from Boardwalk Empire. I've been meaning to do some research on how Jimmy's wife styles hers. It looks beyond choice and lush.
ReplyDeleteI adore Bettie Page's hair but I have had a blunt fringe for too many years, so my inspiration now is Lauren Bacall!
ReplyDeleteCarys-- that picture is the one thing that may convince me to shop my hair. She looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLaura-- ahh, who doesn't love Louise Brooks hair? Perfection! If I only had the face shape to pull it off. I must say, your bob looks fabulous on you!
Q-- you would look so adorable with bangs, though I love your crop and hope you don't grow it out too soon!
Lauren-- thanks! I thought the same thing for a long time, but really, once you look for them, bangs seem to be everywhere in the 30s, haha.
Jessicat-- YES, her hair is so so gorgeous. Also a great look at long hair in the 20s, where bobs can often seem ubiquitous.
Hannah-- Lauren Bacall's beautiful silky locks are to die for! I remain loyal to the Bettie fringe, though (for now, anyway...).
HI absolutely love Claudette Colbert! It Happened One Night is one of my all time favorite movies!!
