dreamland

One of my favorite luxuries is vintage sleepwear! Nothing can compare to the sheer glamour and luxury of those sweet silk and lace confections. I thought I'd share some of the creme de la creme of my modest collection. All of these pieces are 1940s to early 1950s, and all were thrifted for $3 to $10!!

~ 1950s nightie, 1940s bedjacket, 1920s silk roses:

~ 1940s/1950s "Tula" seersucker dressing gown, 1940s satin dressing gown:

I feel like Jean Harlow in the satin number, it's such a dreamboat. Was thrifted for ten clams... among my greatest vintage victories!

~1940s "Tutundgy Original" dressing gown:
....this pretty piece was clearly well-loved, and has quite a few stains and pinholes towards the hem. I think I'll take it up a few inches to eliminate those, and perhaps add some strategic snaps and sport it as a day dress this summer.

~ Some graceful midcentury nightgowns:

~ 1940s bedjacket:

~ 1940s mens' "Tootal" rayon robe:
....well now, what's happened to all the glamour?! Honestly, on many nights I just wrap up in this. A little more practical than floor-length satin, I daresay!

Oh, and of course, no vintage lady's bedroom is complete without a li'l boudoir doll...

That's all!

  2. These pieces are all so gorgeous--especially those dressing gowns! I have a little collection of vintage bed jackets, and just bought my first vintage dressing gown (a dramatic 40s velvet number with serious Joan Crawford shoulder pads!). I love being able to add a little glamor at times when I'm just hanging around the house. ;)

  10. What a lovely collection! I too have a soft spot in my heart for pretty frilly vintage confections - I have a few bedjackets and some gowns, though your beautiful collection of robes is reminding me that I need to keep my eyes open for some pretty robes since I am lacking in that department. They surely do not make them like they used to!

  11. The bed jackets and dressing gowns are just divine! I would quite happily wear any of these as clothes, although perhaps with something a little more opaque underneath! I think wearing the floral dressing gown as a dress is a great idea.

  12. Your collection is to die for! I have little to no silky bed things (only one bedjacket, but too delicate to wear much!). I sleep in a frumpy men's night gown most of the time, but I would love to have something like that 40s pink dressing gown--that collar! xx

  16. Thank you, gals!! I must say, I immediately regretted posting this, as putting pictures of myself in my pyjamas on the ol' internet feels a little strange...... oh, but they're so pretty, I don't want to hide them away! ;o)

  17. You're so right. Wearing stuff like this makes me feel like a movie star. But I'm too cold to actually wear it in the winter lol. I need my flannel stuff. Also, you are just soooo gorgeous!

  20. Dakota I think this has to be my favourite post of yours! Firstly you look amazing! Secondly I am so happy beecause I collect vintage lingerie too and we share a couple of the same pieces. I have almost the exact same Satin dressing gown but mine is quilted all over, I also have a pink version of your blue bed jacket, the lace is in the exact same place and everything. I really want to share mine with you now. Vintage lingerie has to be my favourite thing to collect, you can't beat how glamorous it makes you feel. Thank you so muh for sharing. xx

  33. I'm continually amazed/thankful in my own selfish way at what an under-shopped section of the Goodwill the nightgowns and nightwear racks are. That Harlow satin dressing gown IS a dream. And that color of dusty pink/rose is such a nice shade with your hair! Pretty, pretty things.
