greetings from sunny california

Sorry 'bout the grainy Mac Photobooth shots here, folks; somewhat stupidly, I only brought my film camera with me. Just couldn't wait to send y'all a little postcard from glorious Palm Springs, where I'll be hanging my hat for the holiday season! (Dunno how long I'll be able to fit into these vintage duds, though, if my addiction to date shakes keeps up.)

(1960s "Rockmount" western shirt; 1950s "Western Girl" jeans)
 ( My li'l '70s Avon skunk.)

(Thrifted peasant blouse + square dancing skirt)
While New England may be my homeland and first in my heart, I can't really complain about Sunny C.A.!! Srsly, dark was the night & cold (20℉) was the ground when I left the land of the Green Mountains... the desert hills, palm trees, and sunny skies (to say nothing of the heavenly mid-mod architecture!!) are a very refreshing change. Look at the views from our window...

PS: Sharp-eyed readers will spot a familiar face in the background.... yes, I flew my dog cross-country! It was incredibly nerve-wracking, and I'm not sure I want to repeat the experience (she missed her connection in Washington, D.C. and ended up arriving five hours after me, plus it ended up costing a fortune) but I'm very happy I didn't have to leave her behind. Hey, "home is where the dog is".

  1. Yes, date shakes! When I visited Palm Springs we had to stop at Hadley's. It is such an old-time, California treat. Welcome to California!

  4. Ooh, have loads of fun in sunny California! It's so funny to see these photos and then to look out my own window--we're in the same state and yet it's foggy, rainy and darn cold where I'm at! Anyway, have a lovely Thanksgiving, and I'll have to try a date shake...something I've never heard of, even though the internet is telling me it's popular CA drink! haha

    1. Oh, you're missing out, Rachel... I had my first date shake just yesterday, then another for breakfast, and am restraining myself from having another for dessert. Maybe the thrill wears off after a while, but they're heavenly!!

  5. Oh what a beautiful place to visit and how I adore your blouse and skirt!!! You brought your best friend along for the holidays - what a wonderful time you two will have exploring together - it must have been a real nail-biter worrying about the flight delay! xo

  7. Hi Dakota - you are in my neck of the woods.

I have one of those 1972 Avon skunk pins too (sniffy pin pal filled with fragrance glace), which reminds me I want to photograph some of the Christmas ones for my Countdown to Kitschmas posts next month.

  10. Look at that little skunk! Love all the outfits, as per usual. I'm glad your pupster arrived safe and sound despite the delay, and am jealous of that GORGEOUS view out your window.

  11. Dakota, so happy to hear you're in Palm Springs. Tis' my second home. My family has a condo in Ranch Mirage, I'll be there for new years if you would like to meet up! I strongly recommend that you visit a shop called "Revivals" - I've found the best things at this shop! My email is thesnowchildpost@yahoo.com

  12. You always look so wonderfully darling, no matter the type of camera your captured on. You know, despite growing up in B.C., I've never been to California - or actually anywhere in the States. I feel the pull for sure though (and not just for the Rose Bowl flea market ;) ) and really hope to follow in your footsteps one day and visit California, too.

Have an amazing trip, dear gal!
